Working tour for CMSI visitor from Nairobi

The travels of Antony Njoroge …. with thanks to all the many folk who have helped facilitate Antony’s placement from All Saints Cathedral/UDP, Nairobi, Kenya. So far he’s enjoyed visits to The United Parish of Christ Church & St John’s, St. Columba’s Parish Church, St Mark’s, Dundela, Diocese of Tuam, Killala and Achonry and St Finnian’s, Cregagh. He’s also spent time at CITI, Dublin, visited the Discovery Gospel Choir, met youth leaders on the CIYD Aurora course, and spoken at CMSI Ignite, the TKA Synod and the GFS – Ireland AGM. He even made it to the recent N Ireland v Holland football match! He’s now staying in Belfast Bible College friends and visiting LOGIC Moira before heading down to Christchurch Bray. Pray that he will continue to be a blessing to everyone he meets!

Baptism, Confirmation and pudding party at Ballyclare

A Service of Baptism and Confirmation was held in St John’s, Ballyclare, on Sunday November 17.

The 10 young people had all been led through the Youth Alpha course by Dianne Hamilton, Families, Youth and Children’s Associate with the Parish of Ballynure and Ballyeaston, and her husband Luke.

The church was packed for the service which was led by Bishop Ken Clarke. He spoke on 1 Timothy 4 and the need to take care of our spiritual fitness, our focus and to finish the race. Two of the young people were also baptised at the service by the rector, the Rev Johnny Campbell-Smyth. “It was very special to have their dads assisting me with the baptisms,” Johnny said.

After the service everyone enjoyed a celebration pudding party in the church hall. All 10 young people were treated with their favourite meals which they were served at the top table.

Following their Confirmation, all these young people will continue to meet through the week for discipleship and training.

Dublin’s inter-church Walk of Light 2019

The Walk of Light 2019 takes place this Sunday, November 24, starting with worship in St Finian’s Lutheran Church in Adelaide Road at 4pm. It continues with worship en route at Mary Immaculate, Roman Catholic Church, Rathmines, where Jane Mellett, climate justice officer of Trócaire, will share her reflections on this year’s theme: ‘Walking for Our Common Home – The Earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it’. The journey ends with final prayers in Holy Trinity, Church of Ireland, Church Avenue, Rathmines. The event will be followed by some simple refreshments. This is the 15th year of the Walk of Light. It is organised by local congregations in conjunction with the Dublin Council of Churches. All are most welcome to join in at any point of the walk.

Commissioning of parish catechists in Cloyne and Cork & Ross Dioceses

On Friday 8 November Bishop Fintan Gavin of Cork & Ross and Bishop William Crean of Cloyne, commissioned twenty new parish catechists for their respective dioceses following two years of study. At the same event the bishops also recommissioned the previous group to continue their ministry as parish catechists.

The photo shows the group of catechists with Bishops Gavin and Crean along with Father Charles Kiely, Director of Pastoral Planning and Development in the Diocese of Cork and Ross, Sister Karen Kent, Coordinator of Pastoral Development in Cork and Ross, and Father Sean Corkery, Director of Adult Faith Development in Cloyne.

Armagh Georgian Festival starts next weekend

Celebrated duo Karin Leitner and Teresa O’Donnell will come together to perform a wonderful selection of music for flute, tin whistle, concert harp and soprano in the setting of The Palace. The evening includes a glass of bubbles and canapes.

The Association of Mission Societies (AMS) is hosting an Advent carols and global stories evening, where you will be able to hear some stories from the different mission societies. When? The Official Launch of “Echoes of a Distant Music, a Biography of Ronnie Lee (1929-1992)” by John Crothers, with a Foreword specially contributed by Yan Pascal Tortelier, will take place in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast. Friday, 22nd November, at 7.30pm. St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast.
