Derry Cathedral – Columba Canticles – World premiere for UK City of Culture celebrations

The Dean of Derry, the Very Reverend William Morton, recently announced the world premiere on Sunday coming of Columba Canticles, an oratorio specially commissioned by The Culture Company and St Columb’s Cathedral as part of its contribution to the UK City of Culture 2013 celebrations.

Dr Francis Teeney’s commentary on a new blog from Queen’s University called ‘Compromise after Conflict’, says the prison may be closed but its “ghost lives on in the hurt, pain and suffering endured by a society who still have to hold the big debate on guilt, forgiveness, hope and responsibility.”

A Professor from Queen’s University has said research indicates that many victims of the Troubles are more tolerant towards ex-combatants that non-victims. In a new online blog, Professor John Brewer from the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation and Social Justice at Queen’s says the “real voices of victims are often drowned by the political rhetoric”.
