Holywood’s fundraising mice
A parishioner in Holywood Parish with “a great sense of humour and a humble heart” has put her creative talents to very good use.
Some time ago, in response to an appeal for articles for the parish magazine, Church warden Rosemary Maxwell, wrote a series of short stories, primarily for children, in which the heroes were two little mice called Pip and Jay. (Holywood parish church is St Philip and St James).
Together with their extended family they enjoyed many ‘adventures’ in the church building – exploring their surroundings, nibbling the hassocks, and, in their own mousey way, imparting a sense that all creatures great and small have a significant place in the heart of the Creator.
Alas, the mice have now become scattered to the four winds, however with the decision this year to send mission teams from the parish to various parts of the world, Rosemary decided to collate the mousey tales into a booklet and use it to try and generate funds to support the mission trips.
‘Tales From The Back Pew’ is on sale in the parish for a suggested donation of £5.00 which will help to support the Asha Projects in India and the community in Kkalwe, Uganda, with which Holywood Parish has a special link.
