Saint Patrick’s Cathedral will be hosting a number of events during Heritage Week which takes place from 22 – 27 August. All events are free.
There will be guided tours of the Cathedral each day at 11:30 and 15:00, with each
tour lasting approximately 30 minutes.
There will be a guided tour of the Minot Tower each week day at 16:00. This tour
will include a visit to the ringing room and roof space and you will be able to see
spectacular views of Dublin city from the roof. Please note that this tour is not
suitable for those afraid of heights or confined spaces. There is a maximum limit
of 8 persons per tour and early booking through the Cathedral office (453 9472) is
advisable.
There will be three lunch-time talks during the week:
Mr Albert Fenton, Cathedral Volunteer, will give a talk in the Lady Chapel on
Monday 22 August on Jonathan Swift as Dean of the Cathedral. This talk will
start at 13:00.
Canon Charles Mullen, Dean’s Vicar, will give a literary tour of the Cathedral on
Wednesday 24 August at 18:30.
Mr Patrick Hugh Lynch will give a talk in the Lady Chapel on Friday 26 August at
13:00 on Comrades in War and Peace: The Royal British Legion in Ireland.
On 24, 25 and 26 August there will be costumed soldiers in the Cathedral who, at
12:00 and 15:00, will re-enact the battle between the two feuding Irish families
which lead to the expression “to chance one’s arm”. During these three days there
will be an opportunity to meet the costumed soldiers and there will be an area in
the Cathedral where visitors can handle objects and ask questions.
