Grosvenor presents its Annual Festival of Nine Lessons with Carols, held for the second year in St. Peter’s Church, Antrim Road, Belfast, tomorrow, Friday, 16th December 2011, at 8:00 p.m.
There will be a retiring collection in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Grosvenor Chorale was formed in 1993 by Edward Craig in memory of Ronnie Lee, a man whose work with choirs in Northern Ireland was unsurpassed… we have gone from strength to strength as a choir, formed from past pupils of Ronnie’s at Grosvenor High School to friends of friends and people who have seen our website.
Who we are now….
The Choir’s web site states: We meet to learn music and rehearse every week in Belfast during term times. But with us it’s not just about the music, it’s also about the people … a forty–something group of twenty/thirty-somethings who come from all walks of life… singing in Grosvenor definitely isn’t just reading the notes and learning the melody, we have to understand what we sing about….
Local broadcasts and studio work… travelling together and singing competitively at festivals… our programme varies every year. Our biggest competition was BBC Radio 3 Choir of the Year where we reached the final in December 2008, in London’s Royal Festival Hall, which was the performance of a lifetime!
No two weeks are same with us… with music from the twelfth century through to the present day… we enjoy complex and demanding music yet can sing the simplest folk/unison song, to the highest standard as we can….we take even that simple music and put our own stamp on it!
Individuality and commitment set us apart – excellence and dedication are essential.
