Appointments at St Patrick's, Dublin

Canon Hueston Edward Finlay M.A., B.A.I., B.Th., Ph.D. has been appointed Treasurer by the Dean and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has consented to this appointment.

Canon Finlay was born and brought up in Portlaoise where his parents still live. He was educated at Wesley College, Dublin and Trinity College, Dublin. His initial degree was in Engineering and he then turned to the study of theology – his doctorate is from King’s College, London for a thesis on the German theologian,Schleiermacher.

Ordained in 1989 for the curacy of Kilkenny, he was then curate of Great St Mary’s Cambridge. From 1995 he was Fellow and Chaplain and then Dean of Magdalene College, Cambridge. From 2004 he has been canon of the Queen’s Free Chapel of St George within Windsor Castle. There is he also warden of St George’s House which was founded by the Duke of Edinburgh as a staff college for the Church of England.

In 2006 he preached on St Patrick’s Day at St Patrick’s. His sermon on that occasion may be read in “A year of sermons at St Patrick’s”. Aged 47 he is married to Anne and they have three children.The installation will be at Evensong on Sunday 23 October.

CHANCELLOR’S VICAR
The Chancellor has appointed the Revd Paul Arbuthnot B.Th., M.A., M.Litt. as his Vicar. Paul was ordained in 2010 as curate of Glenageary. Previously, he was a member of the choir as vicar of the Prebendary of Swords. He was installed by the Succentor on September 26.
