Bethlehem peace light in Malahide

Earlier this mo;nth, a candle was lit in the Grotto of Christ’s Birth in the Church of the Nativity, in Bethlehem and taken by young Israeli and Palestinian Scouts to Tel Aviv Airport where with the support of Austrian Airlines it was carried lit to Austria.

On December 10th, a Service for the Gift of Peace was held in Vienna, where scouts and guides from all over Europe gathered to take the flame and transport it across Europe.

On December 13th members of Scouting Ireland collected the light in Holyhead and bought it by Stena Line to Dublin. Two days later, members of Scouting Ireland held a Peace Light Service in the Church of the Visitation in Fairview. From there the Scouts took the Light to places in their own parishes.

On Friday, December 16th the ‘Light ‘ was carried by Irish Rail to centres such as Arklow, Athlone, Cork, Carlow, Derry, Ennis, Galway, Kilkenny, Portlaoise, Limerick, Wexford and Waterford.

The Peace Light from Bethlehem will be in Malahide Sea Scout Den on Christmas Eve from 3pm to 5pm and the group is inviting anybody who would like to visit, light their own candle, and have a little bit of Bethlehem in their own home on Christmas Eve.
