Swift symposium
The Tenth Jonathan Swift Symposium will take place at the Deanery on Saturday
22 October at 2pm. Speakers on the subject ‘Swift and the Church’ are Christopher
Fauske, Salem State University, Brendan Twoomey, Allied Irish Bank, Regina
Janes, Skidmore College, New York, Marcus Walsh, University of Liverpool and

The Annual Service of Commemoration of Jonathan Swift, Dean of Saint Patrick’s
1713-45 will take place on Sunday 23 October at 3.15pm. The address will be
given by the Revd Canon H.E. Finlay, Treasurer.

Songs of Farewell Tour
Mark Duley, Director of Music in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, Galway, begins a ‘Songs of Farewell’ tour on Wednesday in St Patrick’s Church, Newport.  On Thursday they will sing in St Mary’s Cathedral, Tuam, on Friday in St Fachtna’s Cathedral, Kilfenora, and the tour will conclude next Saturday in St Fachtna’s Cathedral, Rosscarbery. Cathedral Auction fund-raiser
Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, and Sheppard’s Irish Auction House have formed a partnership to raise €1million  for vital restoration work to the cathedral. An Inaugural Biennial Auction forms the centre pieces of the programme. This ‘No Reserve Auction’ will be held in Sheppard’s Irish Auction House, Durrow, on Friday 16 December and will be broadcast live online. Details of how to be a part of this programme as a sponsor or as a patron may be had at cccdub.sheppards.ie.

Associated events will be a Post–Auction Ball and Dinner in Castle Durrow Country House Hotel on 16 December, a Conservation Course in Christ Church Cathedral crypt with conservator, Erica Devine, on 11 & 12 November and a recital with the Christ Church Choir an Organist in St Fintan’s Church, Durrow on 9 December.

Dublin Discovery Service
The Dublin & Glendalough Diocesan Committee/Chaplaincy for the International Community invites you to the 2011 Diocesan Discovery Thanksgiving Service on Sunday 16 October 2011 at St. Catherine’s Church Donore Avenue (South Circular Road) Dublin 8 at 3.30pm. The Preacher is The Most Rev Dr. Michael Geoffrey Jackson, Primate of Ireland and Archbishop of Dublin. There will be refreshment in the Parish Hall after Service. The service is being organised by The Revd. Obinna Ulogwara, (Diocesan Chaplain), The Revd. Canon Mark Gardner, (Host Vicar), and The Revd. Canon Horace McKinley.

Limerick clergy retreat
Each year the clergy of the diocese take a few days to refurbish their spiritual and intellectual lives. This year the retreat takes place from Monday 10th October until Wednesday 12th October. The time apart will be lead by Ray Simpson. Ray is the founding guardian of the Community of Aidan and Hilda. The community is a dispersed community which maintains a centre, The Open Gate, on Holy Island, Lindisfarne, which offers accommodation both to visitors and community members. They also provide a programme of retreats and conferences around the UK and internationally. Ray Simpson is well known and has been to Ireland a number of times and regularly leads retreats as part of the Community programme.
