Limerick Youth visit Germany

A group from Limerick diocese took part in the 15th Kids Camp in Guntersberge entitled “Adventure Europe with the children of the world”.

Jurgen Dittrich from Limerick’s Companion Diocese of Anhalt met with the Irish Delegation. Jurgen also met the Irish Ambassador – who was very delighted to hear about the partnership link between the Diocese of Limerick, Killaloe and Ardfert and the Diocese of Anhalt. This is the first time an Irish Delegation has attended this International camp.

RTE – Broadcast Healing Service
The Church’s Ministry of Healing: The Mount has recorded a Service of Worship, Healing and Intercession at St John’s Orangefield, Belfast, which will be broadcast on Sunday August 14 at 10.45am on RTE Radio 1 Extra Stream, Long Wave 252, and on RTE Radio 1 Extra on DAB in the Greater Dublin Area, Cork and Limerick. This is led by the Rev Dr Pat Mollan, Director of Ministry, and the choir of St John’s under the Direction of Tim Wilson and organist Anna Quigley.

The service is particularly appropriate for those at home or in hospital. The theme in words and music is a reminder that no one is beyond God’s healing touch.

Previous healing services for those at home or in hospital can be heard on the website at:

Can’t cook, Want to cook
Macosquin Parish, Derry diocese, is having an innovative event  ‘Can’t cook, Want to cook’ evening on 11 August where  demonstrators in the Minor Hall  will show 40  people  how to prepare a variety of popular  dishes.  The evening  will include a good three course meal.  Those who attend will be able to enrol for future ‘hands-on’ sessions where people will be taught  by experts how to make good soups, starters, stews and casseroles, desserts and  basic home baking skills.

Adare Institution
The Reverend Gary Paulsen was instituted as Rector of the Adare and Kilmallock Group of Parishes on July 30th. Despite the August Bank Holiday which might have made some inroads into the congregation a large congregation gathered at St. Nicholas Adare.

The Bishop, Rt Rev Trevor Williams preached, speaking on the theme of “Making a Difference” and asking those questions which he has been asking for the three years of his episcopate: Who are we? What are we about? and Who is our neighbour? These are vital questions, he said, because communities which have clear answers to them are growing communities.

In answering these questions the Bishop suggested that the Church needs to re-discover itself as the “Body of Christ”, the powerhouse of love of God in Christ. This love commissions us to be God’s agents in the world, bringing God’s care to all around us, our families, or friends, the people with whom we work. It is this love which builds us up as a Christian community of love and care for one another. This love also calls us to reach out, to respond the the real human needs of people in the real and very needy world around us, like those in the desperate circumstances of Somalia.

As is becoming very much a Limerick tradition, parishioners welcomed Gary by presenting him with symbols of his future ministry to come, reminding all present, that while the priest is the focus and enabler of ministry we all have our responsibilities and part to play in the mission of God.

St John’s Malone bid farewell
The parish of St John’s Malone hosted a farewell lunch for the Rev Canon John Mann following his appointment as Dean of Belfast. The lunch was held on Monday August 1, and Canon Mann received a presentation from the parish where he has been rector since 2002.  Canon Mann will be installed as Dean of St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast, and instituted as Vicar of the Cathedral Parish at a service in St Anne’s on Tuesday August

Installation of  Succentor

Dean Griffin
Several weeks ago the Very Reverend Victor Griffin, formerly Dean of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, suffered a heart attack. He was taken first to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry after which he was transferred to a nursing home near Limavady. He has made such
good progress there that he had now been able to return home where he has the help of a team of carers. His many friends wish him well in his recovery.
