The Church and the mental health of Lesbian and Gay people
This public talk on “The Church and the mental health of gay and lesbian people” will be given by Steve Williamson the Director of Cara-Friend, Northern Ireland’s LGBT mental health organisation in Armagh City Hotel, ‘Double Syndicate Room’, 1.15-1.55pm, Friday 10th May 2013,
The speaker is Steve Williamson the Director of Cara-Friend, Northern Ireland’s LGBT mental health organisation.
Through its Helpline, counselling and support services Cara-Friend deals directly with LGBT persons whose well being has been impacted both positively and negatively by their relationship with the Church.
The audience will also have an opportunity to hear from a member of Gay & Lesbian Youth NI on his first hand experiences of Christian responses to his being gay.
Mr Williamson and Cara-Friend seek to inform and help educate on how different ways of approaching difficult issues within the Church environment can lead to either experiences that are destructive to the mental health of LGBT people or experiences which acknowledge difference and affirm people as human beings of worth and value. The event is organised by the Church of Ireland group Changing Attitude Ireland. All welcome.
