Architects’ conference at Lambeth Palace
A one-day conference at Lambeth Palace is aimed at inspiring architects, surveyors and diocesan and cathedral officers to achieve the highest creative standards for new work in church buildings. New Work in Churches and Cathedrals: Architectural Articulation of Liturgical and Community Space takes place on Wednesday, October 31 and features an impressive list of highly regarded guest speakers:
The architect Eric Parry, well known for delivering beautifully crafted and well-considered buildings that respond to their context, will deliver the keynote speech on Spatial and Social Layering: The Critical Role and Potential of the Ecclesiastical Estate Today.
Other speakers include: Alex Coppock of Communion Design, Nick Lee Evans of the Lee Evans Partnership, Sophia de Sousa of The Glass-House Community Led Design, Jane Kennedy of Purcell, Sophy Twohig of Hopkins Architects, and
Oliver Caroe of Caroe Architecture.
Anne Sloman, Chair of the Church Buildings Council, who will chair the event, said: “The purpose of the day is to challenge and be challenged by the very best architects working with churches today. It aims to debate how we can meet the 21st Century needs of both congregations and the wider community, encourage good new design, and meet our ambitious targets for Shrinking the Footprint.”
