Bishop Congratulates ‘The Apprentice’ winner
Bishop Ken Good has added his congratulations to The Apprentice winner Dr Leah Totton. The Londonderry doctor has just won the gruelling competition to be Lord Alan Sugar’s new business partner, in the popular BBC 1 series.
The Bishop of Derry and Raphoe said “This popular TV series has reminded us of the extent to which tenacity, courage and commitment are required to build any business. We are facing significant economic challenges and the need for an entrepreneurial spirit has never been greater”. He continued, “All of us from Leah’s home city are delighted with her success. Her achievement will serve as an inspiration to all aspiring entrepreneurs. It also reminds us of an old maxim that is relevant beyond the world of business, that the best way to predict the future is to create it.”
‘I am a Presbyterian through and through’
News Letter – Profile of Moderator – For the recently elected Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, Reverend Rob Craig, the decision to go into ministry was as a natural repercussion of his decision to become follow Jesus.
“With the Christian faith was a clear call to some form of Christian service; it was all part of the one package for me,” says the 59-year-old, who took up his role at the helm of the church just last month, and will retain it until June 2014.
It’s a selfless, admirable attitude of 100 per cent devotion, and as such it makes him the ideal candidate for what must surely be a demanding role.
Formerly the minister of Kilfennan Presbyterian Church, Londonderry, Rev Dr Craig was nominated by 17 out of the 19 presbyteries in February for the post. He succeeds the outgoing moderator Dr Roy Patton.
“I’m humbled and honoured at one and the same time to be entrusted with this responsibility by the church,” says the married father of two – he is husband to Karen, and dad to Rachel and Hannah.
“There is no doubt about it, it is a great honour and it is a very humbling experience at the same time.”
Born in Magherafelt, Dr Craig was schooled at Armstrong Primary School in Armagh and Wallace High School, Lisburn, and attended Lowe Memorial Presbyterian Church in Finaghy.
He says he was brought up in a church-going family, and is grateful for that fact.
“I am a Presbyterian through and through in that sense,” he says.
