Annual Conductors Course

Dun Laoghaire Choral Society is hosting its third annual Choral Conductors Course from April 4 to 7 at Comhaltas Ceoltoiri  Eireann, Belgrave Square, Monkstown, Co. Dublin.

The society would like to inform church choirs of the course as they believe it will provide invaluable training for both experienced and aspiring church choir conductors alike.

The course will be led by the society’s Music Director and Principal Conductor of the RTE Concert Orchestra, David Brophy. Participants will have an opportunity to hone their skills under David’s direction and also to conduct a large amateur choir.

Choral conductors, teachers, musicians and students are invited to apply for the course. The fee is €250 or €200 for students or €80 for observers.

For more information see the DCLS website www.dlcs.ie. The closing date for application is Tuesday March 23

Dissertations to be published

The Literature Committee continues to meet regularly. Of the current publications and projects underway, a new series of selected dissertations from Masters students at the Church of Ireland Theological Institute (CITI) is in hand and the first series is set to be published within this academic year, featuring three titles from CITI students who graduated in 2012. It is hoped that the booklets will be published annually and will be known as the ‘Braemor Park Series’.

The three new titles which will be published soon are:

• Could the wave of New Monasticism, through its characteristic marks, contain the catalyst that the Church of Ireland may adopt to reconnect with today’s society? by Jonathan Campbell–Smyth. The Revd Jonathan Campbell–Smyth is currently curate in Coleraine (Connor).

• The Place of Lament and the ‘Catharsis of the Complaint’ in Response to the Problem of Evil by John M Godfrey. The Revd John Godfry is currently curate in Galway (Tuam).

• Is the New Masculinity Movement a viable model for engaging men with God and the church? by Alistair James Morrison. The Revd Alistair Morrison is currently curate in Ballyhome (Down).

The titles will include a preface by the Director of CITI, the Revd Dr Maurice Elliott. Details of a launch will be publicised in due course.
