To”night’s The God Slot”, to focus on bishops
A Psalter (apparently the collective noun) of bishops sees RTE Radio 1’s ‘The God Slot’ into its summer recess.
A series of questions will be put to several bishops including the Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, the Rt Revd Patrick Rooke, and the first woman Anglican Bishop of Swaziland, Ellinah Ntombi Wamukoya, as well as Bishop Donal McKeown and Bishop Emeritus Willie Walsh of the Roman Catholic Church.
The programme, the final edition of this series of ‘The God Slot’, will be on air this Friday evening, 31st May, at 10pm on RTE Radio 1. It should be a lively and stimulating discussion and an extended edition of the programme will be available as a podcast from the RTE website.

Big ‘welcome home’ event plan for Irish missionaries
Derry Journal – The IOSAS retreat centre in Muff will host dozens of Irish missionaries early next month as part of its celebrations of the 1,450th anniversary of St Columba’s departure from Derry.
The ‘Welcome Home for Missionaries’ event has been organised by the Columba Community and will feature the largest gathering of Irish missionaries ever assembled in Donegal.
It will celebrate the many hundreds of missionaries from Derry and Donegal who worked in countries across the world over the last 60 years.
The event will also look at the role of missionaries today and ask if the modern church in Ireland is in need of missionary work.
The two-day event will be opened by Archbishop Eamon Martin on one of his first official engagements in Derry since being ordained as Coadjutor Archbishop of Armagh last month. More at:

Priests urged to talk about Communion ceremonies’ reform
Irish Examiner – Individual priests should start talking about reforming communion and confirmation ceremonies because the Church hierarchy is unlikely to do it for them.
Fr Sean McDonagh,a representative of the independent group, the Association of Catholic Priests, made the comment after calls to remove the age-specific nature of the traditional rites of passage.
The suggestion to replace the current system with one where people would not take communion or confirmation until they feel ready to take up the responsibilities involved was put forward by Laois-based priest Fr Paddy Byrne.
