The Dean of St Canice’s, Kilkenny, Very Revd Catharine Poulton, other local clergy and charities were presented with funds raised by Kilkenny Lions Club pre-Christmas.
The Kilkenny People reports: Thousands of euro was raised through this year’s Lions Club Christmas Hamper which was run over the last few weeks in conjunction with the Kilkenny People and KCLR 96fm.
At a presentation in the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny last week, John Ormond , Presidentof Kilkenny Lions distributed the funds raised from the appeal to: The St. Vincent de Paul; Kilkenny Social Services; the Church of Ireland and the Good Shepherd Centre, Kilkenny.
“Kilkenny Lions are absolutely thrilled with the overall response to this year’s Christmas Hamper appeal which was a resounding success, in fact the best we have ever had,” Mr Ormond said.
“We were concerned in September when we started the project that the serious economic climate would jeopardise our efforts however thankfully our fears did not materialise. This is a testament to the exceptional support and solidarity of all local businesses and the general public who contributed so generously to our efforts. Additionally our partners, KCLR and the Kilkenny People gave unreservedly of their time and resources to consolidate this years exceptional achievements,” he added.
“Without doubt this Christmas will be extremely difficult for so many in our Community and we hope that the money generated this year will assist in reducing the hardship some family’s are facing,” he said.
