New publication – Commentary on Postcommunion Prayers

Next month Columba Press will launch “After Communion – A Commentary on Postcommunion Prayers” by Canon Brian Mayne

In a short review of the book Canon Michael Kennedy writes, “With a beautiful picture (from St John’s Malone) on the front cover this is a book to be purchased, read and re-read and referred to. There is an amazing amount packed into its 39 pages including a most interesting and informative account of post-communion prayers from the early Church through the Reformation up to the present day. As a member of the little sub-committee, most ably chaired and led by Brian Mayne that edited and prepared the earlier trial use prayers for inclusion in the 2004 Prayer Book it is a great pleasure to be able to read Brian’s succinct and helpful explanation of the sources of the prayers and their significance, in two or three sentences each, that convey what one wishes to know (in terms of the sources) and to reflect upon (the thrust of the prayers themselves). A final page informs one about the two post-communion prayers printed in the actual order of Holy Communion Two including the one that is said at every celebration.”

The launch will take place in the L’Estrange Hall of St John’s Malone, 141 Malone Road, Belfast on Wednesday 11 January at 4:00pm.

Members of the Liturgical Advisory Committee will be present, and the Good Book Shop will be represented to facilitate purchases.
