C of I Press Officer

Peter Cheney has been appointed as the Church of Ireland’s Press Officer, based in Church House, Belfast. Mr Cheney previously served as Assistant Press Officer, having joined the Representative Church Body’s staff in 2015.

Kilkenny to Salem

On Sunday evening at Evensong St Canices Cathedral bade a fond farewell to the Rev’d Dr David Compton who has served for three and a half years as Bishop’s Vicar. He and Mary Katharine take every good wish and blessing from Kilkenny to their new parish of St Paul’s, Salem, Virginia.

Living Worship 2020 workshop – Holy Commmunion for small choirs

Church Music Dublin invites you to join them at the first session of Living Worship 2020 – a workshop for small choirs led by John Dexter on Saturday, 25th January, from 10am to 12.30pm, in Sandford Parish Church, Ranelagh, D06 A9P8.

John Dexter is the conductor of the Goethe Choir, organist at Whitechurch parish church and former Organist and Master of the Choristers at St Patrick’s Cathedral. This workshop will be of particular interest to those who direct and sing in small parish choirs, many of which may not have all voice parts.

The session will explore how simple music can emphasise and bring significance to the liturgy and be satisfying for those who lead the singing. Most of the music used will be from Church Hymnal and Thanks & Praise.

Participants will bring back to their parish churches an enhanced understanding of the choral possibilities for the Eucharist in the Church of Ireland.

While this workshop is primarily for singers choir directors organists and clergy, members of congregations will also be very welcome.

Fee €5 to include refreshments

Clogher rector

New rector appointed to Grouped Parishes of Trory and Killadeas: A new rector has been appointed to the Grouped parishes of Trory and Killadeas in Clogher Diocese. The Revd Mark Gallagher, currently serving as curate of Bangor Abbey in the Diocese of Down, has been elected as Incumbent of the Grouped parishes of Trory and Killadeas by a Board of Nomination. The parishes along the eastern shores of Lower Lough Erne have a combined total of 372 parishioners. The Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd John McDowell welcoming the appointment, said: “I need hardly say that I am delighted to welcome the Revd Mark Gallagher back into the Diocese, as the incumbent-elect of the Grouped Parishes of Trory and Killadeas. Mark served in the parish of Magheracross as a deacon and will bring his many gifts and enthusiasms to Clogher, now further enhanced by nearly three further years of pastoral experience under an excellent training rector (Canon Ronnie Nesbitt of Bangor Abbey).
