Four priests ordained in Connor Diocese

Four priests were ordained in Connor Diocese at a service in St Patrick’s, Ballymena, on Sunday September 8.

The Rev Peter Blake serving in Antrim Parish; the Rev Emma Carson serving in Ballymena and Ballyclug; the Rev Stu Reid serving in Ballymoney, Finvoy and Rasharkin; and the Rev Maithrie White–Dundas serving in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast. They were ordained by the Rt Rev Patrick Rooke, Bishop of Tuam, Killala and Achonry, as the Bishop of Connor, the Rt Rev Alan Abernethy, is currently on sick leave.

Service at Commencement of the New Legal Year.

The Lord Lieutenant Mrs Fionnuala Jay O’Boyle CBE and the Lord Chief Justice of N Ireland were present at the Service at Fitzroy Presbyterian Church for the Commencement of the New Legal Year which was conducted by the Rev Steve Stockman and Fr Martin McGill.

Belfast’s Jewish Heritage

A date for your diary? On Thursday 21 November 2019, at 7.45PM – Steven Jaffe will be speaking to the North Belfast Historical Society at St Peter’s Church hall, Antrim Road Belfast BT15 4EB. Steven will speak on a unique Jewish Walk in North Belfast – Those present will follow Rabbi Jacob Shachter from his home on Clifton Park Avenue as he walks to the synagogue in Annesley Street. A Jewish heritage walk without having to leave your seats! NBHS charges a small admission price.

Clogher institution

On Thursday evening at 7.30pm the Bishop of Clogher will institute the Revd Philip Bryson as Rector of the Kilskeery and Trillick Group of parishes in Kilskeery parish church. Mr Bryson, who was ordained in 2015, has been curate of Magheraculmoney since 2016.

Christ Church cathedral lecture

The series of lunchtime lectures which highlight recent research on the cathedral in 21st century dictionaries and encyclopedias, continues in Christ Church cathedral, Dublin, on Friday. Dr Kerry Houston, Head of Academic Studies at the TUD Conservatory, will speak about the Encyclopedia of Music in Ireland. Choral Compline resumes in Sandford parish church, Ranelagh, at 7pm.

Ordained Local Ministry in Cashel, Ferns and Leighlin

On Friday evening in St Lasarian’s cathedral, Leighlin, the Bishop of Cashel, Ferns and Leighlin will ordain Janet Finlay to the diaconate. This will be the first ordination under the new Ordained Local Ministry (OLM) programme in the diocese.

New website for Eco–Congregation Ireland

Eco Congregation Ireland’s new website seeks to encourage parishes to take steps in four areas to become more environmentally aware and eco–friendly:
– Practical – Spiritual – Community – Global
Eco–Congregation Ireland is an initiative of the Irish Inter Church Meeting, and includes members from the Roman Catholic Church, Church of Ireland, Presbyterian Church, Methodist Church and Religious Society of Friends.
