Ordination in Trim Cathedral

Rev Carol Hennessy has been ordained as a deacon. The service took place in Trim Cathedral at 4pm on Sunday 15th September. Carol lives in Athy and is a member of Portarlington parish. She will begin her ministry in Geashill, working with Canon Isaac Delamere. Rev Carol was joined by her husband Bill, family and friends at the service. Also in attendance were colleagues and friends from across the dioceses, including parishioners from Portarlington and Geashill.

The preacher at the service was Philip McKinley. He has just moved from being chaplain at DCU to begin training for ordination at the Church of Ireland Theological Insitute. Philip talked of the rich experience that Carol brings to ministry – including amongst other things as a wife, mother, a former Vice-President of Dublin and Glendalough Mothers’ Union. Carol was ordained by Bishop Pat Storey. Also taking part in the service was Dean Paul Bogle, Archdeacon Leslie Stevenson as well as Karen Seaman the Diocesan Registrar. Music was led by the Cathedral organist and Director of Music, Mrs Doreen Kimberley and members of the Diocesan Choir.

Rector instituted in Clogher

The parishioners of the Grouped Parishes of Kilskeery and Trillick in Clogher Diocese have welcomed their new rector. The institution of the Revd Philip Bryson as rector of the Grouped Parishes of Kilskeery and Trillick, took place on Thursday, 12th September, by the Bishop of Clogher, the Right Revd John McDowell in Kilskeery Parish Church. Revd Bryson was formerly a Curate in Magheraculmoney Parish, Kesh, also in Clogher Diocese. A large number of parishioners from both parishes attended, joined by many parishioners from Ardess Parish Church, Magheraculmoney. The Archdeacon of Clogher, the Venerable Brian Harper presented Revd Bryson as incumbent-elect to the Bishop. During the service, the representatives from both parishes of Klskeery and Trillick read the lessons, including Mrs Linda Brunt, a Parish Reader and Mrs Hilary Vance. Psalm 23 was led by Mr Adrian Irvine, a Parish Reader. Parishioners also took part in the commissioning. The Bishop preached.

Connor reader retires

On Sunday morning a special service was held in St. Matthew’s Parish, Belfast. to mark the retirement of Mrs Olive Taylor as Diocesan Reader. Olive served as Lay Reader for 25 years and served as Parish Secretary for many years. Local MLA, Mr William Humphries tweeted, “I am genuinely sorry that Olive has decided to retire, I very much enjoyed her sermons. I wish her a good and lengthy retirement.”
