SPEAKING TO THE SOUL

Psalm 15:5-7 He has sworn to do no wrong and does not take back his word. He does not give his money in hope of gain, nor does he take a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things shall never be overthrown.

The stories of the Old Testament live warmly in my childhood memory alongside Mother Goose and Winnie the Pooh. It has been a thrilling process to undertake an adulthood journey of bringing these stories into a startling, clear, modern light.

Throughout the Old Testament, we hear and see prophets and writers calling the community into an ambitious economic justice—the forgiveness of debts, the abolition of the debt economy, equity within oppressive systems, the release of the chokehold on the poor. Why do those things seem so impossible?

An unyielding bravery is required to stand against sick, stuck, and deeply ingrained systems—bravery and faith. The people who have such bravery and faith—and I hope to be one—shall never be swayed as they take drastic and beautiful measures to follow the love of God.

MOVING FORWARD: Who is the bravest person you know? Call or send that person a note of thanks and encouragement today.
