SPEAKING TO THE SOUL

Acts 20:24 But I do not count my life of any value to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the good news of God’s grace.

Paul has just told the elders in Ephesus that he is “captive to the spirit” and has no idea what will happen to him once he arrives in Jerusalem. Further, Paul said that he does not value his own life: He only wants to testify to the good news of God in Christ. I admire Paul’s single-minded purpose. He has received his mission and ministry from Christ, and he is fully committed. Like Paul, I want to testify to the good news of God’s grace. And I want to feel that my life has worth and meaning. We are all made in the image of God, who gives us our value with the breath of life. It is possible for each of us to proclaim the good news as well as value our own lives. These actions do not cancel each other out. When we testify to the good news of God’s grace, our lives become treasures beyond reckoning.

MOVING FORWARD: How will you proclaim the value of the gospel with your life this week?
