One of the greatest displays of patience I have ever witnessed was nearly eighteen years ago when my wife was pregnant with our first child.
With eight weeks remaining, she was ordered on hospital bed rest by her physician. I think back to those days and wonder how she did it, how she waited patiently each day. I am still amazed at how she was able to fill her days with reading, cross stitch crafts, and prayer.
In one of many selfless acts, she obtained a small cake to celebrate my birthday—all from her hospital bed. Embracing a tedious time with patience and faith, she gave of herself so our child might be healthy, and in the end, she showed me what saints willingly do: wait patiently upon the Lord.
