SPEAKING TO THE SOUL

John 6:15 When Jesus realized that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, he withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

Jesus could have ridden a wave of popularity to an earthly kingship. However, his choices demonstrate a commitment to a plan far greater than merely overthrowing the Roman Empire.

Defining a vision for the impact of our ministries is crucial to helping us make wise choices. Without understanding what we are trying to achieve, we often waste precious resources on wandering. As Lewis Carroll reminds us in Alice in Wonderland: “If you don’t know where you are going, any road can take you there.”

Jesus has come to bring all people into a loving and right relationship with God and each other. Thanks be to God that Jesus’ choices are rooted in love, clear in mission, and full of love!

MOVING FORWARD: When have you made the popular choice? When have you made the right choice? Are these choices sometimes different? How do you choose between a popular choice and a right choice?
