Many months ago, a faithful parish ministry leader came to me, frazzled that she would be unable to attend our annual parish cleanup day. People say the best sermons are the ones the preacher most needs to hear, and my advice to her was good advice for me, too: Trust the team. I encouraged her to trust her brothers and sisters to support her in her absence and to work together to accomplish the work of their common ministry.
Kingdom building is hard work! It’s a bigger task than any one of us can surmount, and it takes many more lifetimes than any one of us has to give. For you or me, building the kingdom of God is impossible. Luckily, we are on God’s team, and for God, all things are possible. We can’t bring about the kingdom of God by ourselves. We need each other. We need to learn to trust the team.
