SPEAKING TO THE SOUL

Tell all the nations, “The Lord reigns!” The world stands firm and cannot be shaken. He will judge all peoples fairly. – Psalm 96:10 NLT

In the movie Avatar, the Na’vi greeting given to each other means “I see you”.

It is essential as we live the God-life that we don’t only point out the great acts of God in history or forward to a wonderful eternity but demonstrate the reality of God in the present. The Lord reigns now! If we have confidence in this reality then there is little that can undermine an optimistic attitude.

Life may appear bleak but remember, our God reigns. Our life choices are to be measured against the character of the God we worship. This is why we are a good news people. We are always going to practise the highest values of respect and restraint to ensure everyone has the greatest opportunity to realise the God, or good, life. So, one key aspect of my voice is my time and lifestyle choices. Who am I seen to be by family, friends and neighbours? This voice, silent yet essential, is always making a statement about the Lord who reigns.

Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever (see Hebrews 13:8). So no global turbulence can shake that reality. It may well disturb me, however. Therefore, I need to be present with God within the turbulence to stand a chance of seeing others clearly and not through panic-framed spectacles of my fears.

Learning to live present with God in the now is a great gift. You, and I, have little real control over the direction and outcome of our life. Acknowledging this will prove quite releasing. You are in God’s care, and God is just and present in every circumstance. Take time to see God, and then to see life through God’s eyes.

QUESTION

How easy or difficult do you find “living in the now”?

PRAYER

May I live today “in the now”, seeing life through your eyes, remembering that God reigns.
