Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children.
Jesus did not descend into our world clean and untouched through a puffy divine cloud. No, God sends our redeemer into the world the same way you and I entered it. Jesus is “born of a woman.”
I often fall into the trap of minimizing my service to God. In my work as a psychotherapist, I tell myself All I do is talk, physicians do the real work of healing physical bodies. My work is nothing, I tell myself, compared to the higher calling of doctors, priests, and policy makers.
But then I remember that the Savior of the world entered history the same way I did. I remember Jesus feels the same feelings I do and deals with the same doubts I do. I remember that Jesus faces temptation, just like I do. Then, I can embrace my gifts as an opportunity to do the work to which Jesus calls me.
