Acts 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John and realized that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they were amazed and recognized them as companions of Jesus.
While I like to consider myself an educated and sophisticated Christian, I’ve noticed something about my Christian role models: They are ordinary people living extraordinary lives.
Take Ernie, who is in his eighties. No one would blame him for slipping into a quiet retirement. But instead you can often find Ernie at church—on a ladder fixing something or out building wheelchair ramps with the Lions Club. He’s also been known to invite his grandson’s friends over to the house for breakfasts.
No one who meets Ernie mistakes him for an ordinary person. One might ask, Where does Ernie’s boldness come from? I think it comes from the relationship that Ernie has had with Jesus Christ for more than half a century.
I have prayed many times asking God to make me more like Ernie. I pray today that God would grant you refreshed eyes to glimpse the Ernies in your life.
MOVING FORWARD: Write a note of thanks or make a phone call to one of your own personal role models.
