St Brigid’s Day Service – Zion
Today is St Brigid’s Day and this evening in Zion Church, Rathgar, Dublin, the choir will sing the short monastic Office of Compline/Night Prayer using traditional chant. All are welcome. 8.00 pm. St Brigid was Abbess of Kildare around 525 AD.
St Brigid’s Day – Cashel & Ossory
In the Dioceses of Cashel & Ossory St Brigid’s Day will see the beginning of a programme, coordinated by Canon Charles McCollum, to develop the use of Irish in the liturgy. It will begin with services in the two churches in the diocese dedicate to St Brigid – those in Ballintubbert and Kilrush.
Communion Service in the Irish Language
As part of Éigse na Tríonóide, the Irish Language Festival in Trinity College Dublin, a service of Choral Eucharist in Irish will be held in College Chapel on Thursday 2 February at 5.15pm.
Theological Institute
The Feast of the Presentation will be celebrated at the Community Eucharist in the Church of Ireland Theological Institute on Wednesday at 5 p.m. after darkness falls, and the celebrations include the Candlemas Procession. The celebrant is Canon Patrick Comerford, Lecturer in Anglicanism and Liturgy, and the visiting preacher is the Bishop of Connor, a member of the institute governing council
Christ Church Cathedral
A special service of solidarity for the people of Ireland as we journey through the darkness of economic gloom will take place in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, on February 2nd 2012. The service, which takes place on the Feastday of Candlemas, will be entitled “In darkness there is light”. 7.30 pm
Clogher
On Thursday evening in Devenish parish church, Co. Fermanagh, the Bishop of Clogher will introduce the Revd Sampson Ajuka, who has come from the Diocese of Europe, as Diocesan Curate to serve in the parishes of Devenish and Boho.
Memorial Service for Revd Allen Delamere
A service to remember and give thanks for the life of Allen Stephen Delamere at 2.00pm on 4 February in Killinchy Church.
The preacher at the service will be Revd Canon Ken Smyth.
