International Anglican speakers will gather in Westminster Abbey in London over the coming months to help lead a series of seminars discussing key issues for the Anglican Communion in the run up to the Lambeth Conference.
In partnership with the Anglican Communion Office, the Abbey is hosting a series of day events between November 2019 and April 2020.
The international panels will examine a range of themes from the fundamentals of Anglicanism to conflict and reconciliation.
Canon Theologian at Westminster Abbey, Dr Jamie Hawkey, said, “The seminars will reflect on a specific theme related to Anglican identity, and the nature and mission of the Anglican Communion in the twenty-first century. Each day will include a number of papers and discussion, and conclude with insight from a distinguished ecumenical guest.”
A volume of papers from the seminars will be published on the eve of the Lambeth Conference by SPCK.
The first seminar will be entitled, ‘Fundamentals of Anglicanism – locating the life of the Church’ and will run on 8 November 2019, from 9.30am – 4.30pm. Speakers will include Professor Alec Ryrie FBA (Durham), Dr Jacqueline Rose (St Andrew’s), The Revd Dr Jeremy Morris (Cambridge), The Revd Professor Nicholas Sagovsky (Roehampton), The Right Revd Dr Joseph Wandera (Anglican Church of Kenya), Professor Annemarie Mayer (Leuven)
The second event will be on 9 December 2019 entitled, ‘Conflict and reconciliation within the Anglican Communion’. Speakers will include The Most Revd Dr Linda Nicholls (Primate of Canada), The Right Revd Dr Victor Atta-Baffoe (Province of West Africa), The Right Revd Dr John Bauerschmidt (Tennessee, TEC), The Revd Professor Mark Chapman (Oxford), The Revd Dr Susan Durber (Moderator of the Faith and Order Commission, WCC)

Further seminars will be held on 17 February 2020: Harvesting the fruits of bilateral dialogue; 12 March 2020: Being the Church in the 21st century: challenges for a young global communion
And 3 April 2020 Released for Mission: thinking and living our structures theologically, with more details to follow.
