An advent oasis in Montreal mall

The Diocese of Montreal is setting up an advent oasis in a major mall as a buy-free zone. Seminarians and young clergy will staff the storefront ministry from December 1 through Christmas Eve.

The Christmas music is blaring, the coloured lights are blinking, and all around you people are rushing to get their shopping done for the holidays. You’re stressed, you’re tired, you’re cranky, and completely overwhelmed by a long list of “to buys” and “to dos”. When did this time of year become something you dread?

Young clergy and seminarians from the Anglican Diocese of Montreal are creating an oasis of peace for you in the midst of a hectic mall. Right in the Promenades de la Cathédrale shopping centre, along the corridor that runs parallel to Union Street, is a quiet area where you can escape the chaos. It’s a place where you can unwind, pray, meditate, or have a spiritual conversation over a hot drink. You’ll be free from any pressure to buy anything, tucked away from the frenetic
Christmas rush. We’ll be there to welcome you from December 1 to 24, every Thursday and Friday from 3 pm to 9 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 pm.

The grand opening is on Thursday, December 1st, at 3pm when the Bishop of Montreal, the Right Rev. Barry Clarke, will open and bless the Advent Chapel. Members of the planning team will be on hand to answer questions and to offer a tour of the newly decorated space.
