SPEAKING TO THE SOUL

Sunday 18th September

A QUOTE, A TEXT AND A PRAYER…OR TWO
The churches have been asked to take time between September 1 and October 31 to reflect on Creationtime. PRAY2DAY is observing Creationtime this week

A QUOTE

“Christian people should surely have been in the vanguard of the movement for environmental responsibility, because of our doctrines of creation and stewardship. Did God make the world? Does He sustain it? Has He committed its resources to our care? His personal concern for His own creation should be sufficient to inspire us to be equally concerned. … So God’s mighty acts in creation and redemption are to be made known throughout the world. I hope, brothers and sisters, that we will not be afraid to bear witness to the Creator, as well as the Redeemer. Just as the apostle Paul did when confronted by the philosophers in Athens, we need to hold together in our evangelistic witness the creation and the cross – the God who made us, and the God who has redeemed us in Jesus Christ. If either is omitted, our gospel has become truncated.”
— John R. W. Stott, theologian and Christian author

A TEXT

I have come down to rescue them from the clutches of the Egyptians and bring them up out of that country, to a country rich and broad, to a country flowing with milk and honey. Exodus 3:8

AND A PRAYER…OR TWO

Almighty God you created the heavens and the earth and all that is in them, and you promised to your people a land of their own: give us all a reverence for all that you have created that we may respect the needs and desires of all people to find their place within your world;
Through Jesus Christ our Lord
Who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit
one God, now and for ever. Amen

Stewardship of land and produce
O God, the Creator, thank you for your gracious and generous provision for our material needs, and for those who in partnership with you make available the fruits of the harvest, May we be compassionate to those who are hungry and in need. Teach us to be responsible stewards of the land and our environment, so that all may continue to share in the fruits of your bounty; through Jesus Christ our Lord.   Amen
