SPEAKING TO THE SOUL

Sunday 19th February

A QUOTE, A TEXT AND A PRAYER…OR TWO

A QUOTE
Far too often, however, we resent and resist any interference on God’s part that might deprive us of our deepest desires. Many Christians who sing, ‘It is well with my soul,’ are lying. It is not well with their souls because they are not persevering, and they have no intention of doing so, because they are bitter and hostile toward God and mourn over their ‘victimisation’ at His hands. Others are little better, for they ‘persevere’ with a cold, stony, stoic demeanour that constantly reminds God how much they are doing for Him despite His lack of reciprocity.–Jim Owen

A TEXT
The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom shall I be afraid?

…For he will hide me in his shelter
in the day of trouble;
he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;
he will set me high on a rock.

I believe that I shall see
the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
Parts of Psalm 27

AND A PRAYER…OR TWO
We pray for those who are ill :-

Lord God, whose son, Jesus Christ, understood people’s fear and pain before they spoke of them, we pray for those who are ill; surround the frightened with your tenderness; give strength to those in pain; hold the weak in your arms of love, and give hope and patience to those who are recovering. We ask this through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Lord in your Mercy; Hear our prayer.
