SPEAKING TO THE SOUL

Tuesday 13th September

A QUOTE, A TEXT AND A PRAYER…OR TWO

A QUOTE
I ask Lord for daily bread, but not for wealth, lest I forget the poor
I ask for strength, but not for power, lest I despise the meek
I ask for wisdom, but not for learning, lest I condemn the simple
I ask for a clean name, but not for fame, lest I condemn the lowly.
I ask for peace of mind, but not for idle hours, lest I fail to hearken to the call of duty. Inazo Nitobe

A TEXT
The Lord gave this command to Joshua son of Nun: “Be strong and courageous, for you will bring the Israelites into the land I promised them on oath, and I myself will be with you.” Deuteronomy 31:23

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9

AND A PRAYER…OR TWO

A prayer for the Rugby World Cup
Eternal God,
Giver of joy and source of strength,
grant to the people of Christchurch and all New Zealand
a World Cup to match the spirit of faith and courage
with which they have faced devastation and loss.
We pray for all those involved,
that players, officials and supporters may join together in celebration,
through Jesus Christ who is the resurrection and the life, Amen.

O God our God, grant us grace to desire you with a whole heart, so that desiring you we may seek and find you; and so finding you, may love you; and loving you may hate those sins which separate us from you, for the sake of Jesus Christ. St Anselm 1033-1109
