SPEAKING TO THE SOUL

Wednesday 4th January

A QUOTE, A TEXT AND A PRAYER…OR TWO

A QUOTE
I said to a man who stood at the gate of the year: “Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown”; and he replied, “Go into the darkness and put your hand into the hand of God. That shall be to you better than a light and safer than a known way!” King George VI quoting from a poem by M. L. Harkins.

A TEXT
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
Matthew 5:13-16

AND A PRAYER…OR TWO
God, our Father, you can make all things new.
We commit ourselves to you: help us
– to live for others since your love includes all people,
– to seek those truths which we have not yet seen,
– to obey your commands which we have heard but not yet obeyed,
– to trust each other in the fellowship which you have given us;
and may we be renewed, by your spirit through Jesus Christ,
your Son and our Lord.
