Search committee for successor
The Rev. Stephen W. Need has announced his resignation as dean of St. George’s College, Jerusalem, a position he has held since 2005. His resignation will take effect on April 30.
Dean Need has accepted a call to be priest-in-charge of Stock with West Hanningfield in the Church of England’s Diocese of Chelmsford. He also intends to pursue further academic studies.
He was born in Nottingham, England, and studied theology at King’s College, London. He first joined the staff of St. George’s College as senior lecture in 1996 and as a course director from 1999-2001. He has a special interest in St. Paul and Turkey, and is author of several books.
In March 2008, Dean Need was ordained a priest at St. George’s Cathedral in Jerusalem, where he serves a member of the pastoral team.
The Foundation, the governing body of St. George’s College, acknowledged Dean Need’s “academic excellence and a deep pastoral care both for students and staff, together with a profound understanding of the cultural and political realities of the Land of the Holy One. After six years as dean he leaves the college in good heart and on a sound financial footing.”
The Foundation has appointed a search committee and will be calling candidates for interview in Jerusalem during the first week of April. Inquiries should be directed to Bishop Robin Smith at bprobin@no7.me.uk.
St. George’s College, one of the institutions of the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem, serves the Anglican Communion and other faith communities as a centre for pilgrimage and education, offering one- and two-week courses that explore the Abrahamic faiths, the Bible in the context of the Holy Land, the Palestine of Jesus and St. Paul and the early church.
