Getting people singing

A short course in Dublin for organists, cantors and anyone who leads singing with Sunday clubs, schools and youth choirs

The course will be held on Saturdays 24 September and 1 October 2011 in Adelaide Road Presbyterian Church, (Luas: Harcourt) from 10 am to 2.30 pm. The leaders are Peter Parshall and Jacqueline Mullen.

Peter has extensive experience as a church musician. He is a former director of music at St Bartholomew’s Church, Ballsbridge and until recently was Co-ordinator for RSCM Ireland. Jacqueline is a music teacher and is choir leader at St Patrick’s Church, Greystones.

Saturday 24 September  :  Course leader: Peter Parshall

•    Accompanying hymns and worship songs to encourage singing
•    Chosing repertore to suit the liturgical season
•    Basic conducting – 3/4 and 4/4 only – starting and stopping
•    Teaching a song to a small group
•    Safeguarding Trust
•    Copyright – CCLI and Calamus licences, etc.

Saturday 1 October  :  Course leader: Jacqueline Mullen

•     You’ve inherited a choir – what do you do with them?
•    Teaching a new hymn or liturgical item to the assembly
•    Specific choices towards a particular service
•    Self-confidence when in front of people
•    The church musician as cantor
•    Music groups and bands – set-up and running
•    Health and Safety

Fee: €40 payable when booking.  Early application advisable.
