Girls choir radio debut
Belfast Cathedral Girls’ Choir featured in the Sung Eucharist broadcast live from the cathedral on Radio Ulster on Easter Sunday morning.
The Girls’ Choir was founded in 2012 as part of the creation of a new choral programme which provides music for the cathedral’s services and also offers a free musical education to promising young singers.
Up to 20 girls from schools around Belfast attend the cathedral for rehearsals and services two or three times a week, during which time they have access to free and regular vocal tuition from the choir’s vocal coach, Catherine Harper, and free sight–singing and theory lessons.
They have recorded part of a soundtrack for an exhibition at the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum, and broadcast for the first time on Easter Sunday morning.
Messiah and the choirs of St Patrick’s and Christ Church Cathedrals
ChristianToday – A less well known aspect of the story is that at the first performance of Messiah five out of the eight soloists, as well as members of the chorus, were drawn from the ranks of the choirs of the Church of Ireland’s two cathedrals in Dublin –
