Evening of Music and Art At St Michan’s
St Michan’s Church will host an evening of music and art with a wine reception on Friday May 25 as part of the LINK Culturefest. The evening will get underway at 7.30 pm with the dedication of the church’s new Smithfield entrance and a Service of Thanksgiving for the Arts with Te Deum.

At 8.00 pm the launch of the new St Michan’s Community Gallery and first exhibition entitled ‘Reflections’ will take place. This exhibition is a combination of two established artists working in different mediums: Maeve McCarthy, painting and Mella Travers, photography. Each artist uses their medium to reflect the community and atmosphere of the historical structure of St Michan’s church. Maeve’s paintings are an intimate reflection of the play of light falling through the windows on to the interior of the church using the ancient technique of hand made Gesso on panels. Mella’s photography reflects the people who work and practice their faith in St Michan’s community. Using subtle lighting, her subjects emerge from the background where you can see glimpses of the church.

At 9.00 pm PISQUA – A New Language in Jazz play a free gig as part of the LINK Culturefest. “A Journey” is how Jose “Cote” Calmet defined PHISQA and it is because of that that PHISQA [five in Quechua, native language of Peru] is not only the harmonious conjunction between five “Jazzman” from different countries [Italy, South Africa, Peru, Venezuela and Ireland] but also the staging of a new way to merge the rich texture of Afro–Peruvian rhythms and Andean music with finesse, spontaneity and high technical jazz.
