Bits ’n Bobs for trumpet & organ!
One of Ireland‘s leading trumpeters, Michael Harrison, and Dr Emma Gibbins, Organist and Director of Music in St George‘s Church, Belfast, will be giving a recital of trumpet and organ in St Columb’s Cathedral, Londonderry, on Monday 22 October at 7.30 pm.
Michael, who chose to call the event, Bits ‘n Bobs for trumpet & organ, has suggested an extremely user friendly programme in which, with the help of various pieces of hosepipe, etc, he will give a short talk on the workings of the trumpet!
“Audiences love this, I find”,says Michael, ―and it allows them great insights into how the instrument works! It is always quite light-hearted and humorous as well.”
Emma is no stranger to the Cathedral in that she gave an excellent recital on the organ here in the summer music series a few years ago. The programme will include some well-known music, for example, Gabriel‘s Oboe by Ennio Morricone, from the film, the Mission, and Charpentier‘s Te Deum, both of which are frequently requested to be played at weddings! The Trumpet Voluntary by Jeremiah Clarke will get an airing as well!
Michael has played the trumpet with the Ulster Orchestra in the Guildhall several times and is looking forward to his debut now in the Cathedral, the city‘s oldest building.

NEWS
New Irish Arts launches their new website
A fresh new website for New Irish Arts has just gone live. You can buy a CD for a friend, watch a video, enquire about joining, learn loads of things you might not already know and maybe even buy a few concert tickets.
New Irish Arts works in partnership with the Irish Church to present Christianity through the Arts and was started as the New Irish Choir and Orchestra in 1994 by Irish hymn–writer Keith Getty. They now have a network of several hundred volunteer musicians, working alongside a small group of actors and visual artists to produce a wide range of events throughout Ireland each year.
They produce large events in the major Irish concert halls, but they also enjoy collaborating with other musicians. Over the years they’ve worked with many great people – including the Rend Collective Experiment, Clannad’s Moya Brennan, Matt Redman, Stuart Townend, Yazz, Bluetree and of course Keith and Kristyn Getty. They also broadcast regularly on BBC and RTE radio and TV.
In addition to these high profile events, the ministry also involves working on many smaller community projects where the Arts can help to build bridges with people who would probably not choose to attend a Christian concert

RELEASES
40 years of Prom Praise
After four decades spent filling the Royal Albert Hall with classical worship that makes the heart sing, the work of All Souls Orchestra has impacted countless lives. On an April evening earlier this year old friends and new gathered in the historic venue to celebrate the event’s unique history.
The power of that event is now available on CD and DVD, featuring special guests Keith and Kristyn Getty, Graham Kendrick, conductor Noel Tredinnick and singer Jonathan Viera. But beyond the names and the songs – from In Christ Alone to All I Once Held Dear, Creation Sings The Father’s Song to Jesus The Name High Over All, along with a little Handel, Beethoven and Elgar – there is the tangible sense of the presence of God at work through the music made by an orchestra over 100-strong, a choir of 500 and a full-house determined to raise the roof in praise of God.
Highlights include pianist Grace Yeo’s recital of a movement from Beethoven’s ‘Emperor’ Concerto, Richard Lennox unleashing the Royal Albert Hall organ and Keith and Kristyn Getty’s intimate new song Still My Soul Be Still. Those and the party balloons being released as Graham Kendrick led the five thousand worshippers in ‘The Feast is Ready’.

Gettys’ Hymns for Christian Life
Modern day hymn writers Keith and Kristyn Getty releaseD their latest project from Kingsway on Monday.
Hymns for Christian Life is billed as “their most personal album to date” and sees the duo explore contemporary themes like work, family, community and social action.
Much of the inspiration for the album came from their break in Nashville two years ago
They decided to take a time out from touring and welcomed their first child, Eliza Joy, to the world
Their time in Nashville also influences the album musically, with elements of bluegrass and country music woven into their trademark Irish sound.
Keith adds: “Irish music essentially gave birth to folk music. Having lived in ireland and now in Nashville, we can harness the best from both musical styles in our songwriting for the church.”
