A conference on abuse in our Communion and in our communities
THE ANGLICAN COMMUNION SAFE CHURCH CONSULTATION was recognized by the Standing Committee of the Anglican Consultative Council in 2009 following a conference of Communion members near London in July 2008 responding to abuse complaints in their respective provinces of the Communion.
Participants in that conference, Creating a Safer Church, from England, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the United States, formed a steering committee to promote the safety and welfare of all persons served by ministries of the Anglican Communion.
The Consultation is committed to eliminating abuse and misuse of power by clergy, church employees and volunteers. Through establishing networks and conferences, the work of the Consultation offers education and theological reflection on the use and abuse of power in ministry to equip and support ministry leaders in the Communion with resources, policies and procedures that respect dignity of all persons in the Communion and its communities.
The 2011 Conference is being held in British Columbia, Canada on June 23 – 26, 2011.
.
Partnering for Prevention is for ministers and church leaders concerned with power, abuse and gender issues in the church. The conference is welcome to episcopal authorities and administrators, child protection advisers, members of professional ethics and standards committees, directors of ministry education programs, legal officers and chancellors, clergy and lay ministers serving children, youth and vulnerable persons, pastoral counsellors, and clergy caring for persons and congregations with legacies of abuse. The conference will offer opportunities not only for learning but for sharing experiences and deepening insights to reduce and prevent abuse in ministry, and to develop healing responses to those harmed.
