Recital at St. Peter’s Drogheda – lunchtime today

St.Peter’s Church of Ireland, Peter’s Street, Drogheda, is the venue for what promises to be an interesting music recital today.

The recital is being organised by local violinist Tadhg Murphy and joining up with Tadhg will be pianist Lance Coburn.

The recital is in support of SOSAD (Save Our Sons and Daughters) and those affected by suicide and depression.

Tadhg is making suicide and depression the focus of the recital which he describes as ‘ the single greatest torment of my generation’.

Tadhg started his study of the violin with Niamh Tiernan in the Sound Shop School of Music, Drogheda before moving on a scholarship to the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
A former pupil of Scoil Aonghusa and St Mary’s Diocessan School, Tadhg is a multiple Feis Ceoil winner which include the Arthur Catterall Cup (Concerto). He completed a Diploma in Teaching and Performance, and a Degree in Music Performance at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. He is currently a freelance musician and plays with a variety of ensembles, including the RTE Concert Orchestra.

Lance Coburn is on the teaching faculty of the Royal Irish Academy of Music.
Beginning his studies in his homeland of New Zealand, Lance furthered them in the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire – Moscow and finally with John O’ Conor at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. Since winning 1st prize at the Tomassoni International Piano Competition, Cologne in 2001, Lance has performed as both concerto soloist and recitalist in many countries including Israel, Russia, United States, South Africa, and Korea.

The recital is over lunchtime (1.05pm – 2pm) on Friday December 23rd, in St Peter’s Church of Ireland, Peter Street, Drogheda, and should provide a welcome respite to those in need of a break from the strains and stresses of Christmas preparations.

There is no admission charge, and all are welcome.
